The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) officials had a reason to smile on the second Bus Day on Thursday. It saw a better passenger turnout compared to the first Bus Day. This time, the day was observed in several parts of the city unlike the first, which was confined to two IT corridors. However, the software professionals, who drove the first Bus Day, were let down by BMTC officials who had promised to address certain demands to make the day a success.

"We are giving a serious thought on continuing our co-operation to BMTC. How can such initiatives be a success if they won't co-operate with us?," said an Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) member, who played a key role in realising the initiative in IT corridors (ITPL and Electronic City).

The route

For the second Bus Day, BMTC plied additional buses in corridors between Old Madras Road-Bannerghatta Road covering stretches like Marathalli-Kadugodi Road, Koramangala-Sarjapur Road, Ring Road-Hosur Road, Dairy Circle-Bannerghatta Road.

It also operated over 100 additional services in five major parts of the city including Vijaynagar, Yeshwantpur, Koramangala, Shantinagar, Jayanagar, Hebbala and Banashankari that resulted in an increase of over 10 per cent passenger density yesterday.u00a0u00a0

"The second Bus Day was no doubt a success," said Sampangi Ramgowda, Divisional Traffic Office (DTO), BMTC. "We started our day early to ensure the waiting time is zero in shortlisted areas. With an effective public response, we could achieve an increase of over 10 per cent in passenger density."u00a0

However, BMTC got a disappointed feedback from the IT corridors.u00a0u00a0 Professionals from companies in Sarjapur, Outer Ring Road, that has over sixty IT companies, expressed their dissent that BMTC did not keep its word.u00a0

Broken promises

The BMTC officials had assured to fulfill their 10 requests to make the second Bus Day more successful but did nothing in the end. The list included BMTC bus service in specific corridors from where large number of techies commute, besides requests for entry and exit points inside the campuses.

No bus in campus

An employee of an IT firm in ECO SPACE, Sarjapur ORR said, "One of the demands was to have buses inside our campus. Though BMTC officials assured to address them, the day ended with not even a single bus entering the campus. How can we make Bus Day a success with such a response from BMTC?"u00a0u00a0
