Supreme Court asks CBI to file status report in Aarushi murder case

Supreme Court asks CBI to file status report in Aarushi murder case

One name Delhi parents have struck off the newborn naming list is Aarushi, after the twin murder case of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and domestic servant Hemraj shook the nation last year. But the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), handling the case, doesn't seem to be too concerned. It needed a rap from the Supreme Court to remind the central agency about the urgency of the case. The investigative body has so far failed to file a chargesheet in the case, nearly 14 months after Aarushi was found with her throat slit at her Noida home.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the CBI to file a status report in the case.

During the hearing of a PIL, a bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph asked, "What has happened to the case? What is the progress?"u00a0

Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam promised he would appraise the court of the latest status of the probe and said the government would present the status report before it at the earliest.

Rajesh Talwar, Aarushi's father, said, "We have lost someone who no one can bring back. But we welcome anything that can forward this case. I will fight till the last to get justice for my innocent daughter."

14 months later...
Rajesh and Nupur Talwar: have left their Noida flat and shifted to their old south Delhi house where the duo used to live before Aarushi was born. Rajesh Talwar has resumed his practice.
Krishna: had gone to Nepal after he got bail but was recently spotted near Jal Vayu Vihar and is staying in the same apartment where he used to live.
Vijay Mandal and Raj Kumar: went back to their homes but there is no detail about their whereabouts.

The case that shook the nation
Aarushi, daughter of dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, was found with her throat slit at their house in Jal Vayu Vihar, Noida, on May 16 last year. The family help, Hemraj, was found murdered on the terrace the next day.

The police initially suspected Rajesh Talwar but he was later declared innocent. The CBI then arrested Rajesh's medical assistant Krishna and accused him of committing the murder with the help of Raj Kumar and Vijay Mandal, both domestic helps in the neighbourhood.

But a court let off the three due to lack of adequate evidence. A CBI official had admitted earlier this year that the agency had no "clinching evidence" and that the case against the three prime accused was weak.
