The next time Lt Col Deepak Kumar wants to travel by air, he is first going to check the policy of the airline in case the flight on which a passenger is booked is cancelled.

| aggrieved: Lt Col Deepak Kumar had to bear a loss because the airline cancelled the flight |
After a Spice Jet flight on which he had booked two tickets to Delhi for February 13 was cancelled, the army officer claims he suffered a financial loss because of the airline.
Kumar had booked his tickets through a private travel site, but on the day of journey, the flight was cancelled around 5.30 am, five-and-half hours before the scheduled departure. He got a recorded call from the airline informing him about the cancellation.
As Spice Jet could not accommodate him on any other flight on that day, it suggested he cancel his tickets. He did so and bought fresh tickets for a Spice Jet flight the next day, which meant he had to pay more as flight tickets are costlier if the booking is done close to the day of the journey.
"After my Flight SG-212 got cancelled, I contacted customer care and asked if I could be adjusted on any other flight for Delhi on the same day as I had to attend an engagement ceremony. I was informed that there were no other Spice Jet flights on the same day and that the airline did not have a tie-up with any other airline," Kumar told MiD DAY. "When I enquired about other alternatives, officials suggested I cancel my tickets and book fresh tickets, which I did."
The officer said the airline assured him of a full refund, which would be processed later by the airline company and travel site.
Kumar did receive the refund, but he said it was quite a few days in the coming. Also, he reached his destination late because of the flight cancellation.
But the biggest issue Kumar has is that the airline did not make good the loss he suffered as a result of the new tickets he purchased being costlier than the tickets for the flight that got cancelled.
"I had mailed the company to highlight my issue, but haven't received any acknowledgment from the company," he said.
