CCTV cable worth two lakh rupees stolen

Around one and a half kilometre long cable laid near India Gate to install CCTC cameras at the high security area was stolen by unknown people on June 26. Thus, Delhi Police's plan to increase surveillance in the area has been delayed.

A senior police officer confirmed the incident and said an FIR under section 379 (theft) of IPC has been lodged in this regard. The officer said: "A contract was given to ISG Electronic Corporation of India Ltd. to install 50 CCTV cameras at all the important areas of New Delhi district.

The company workers had dug up the road and were working on installing the cameras. But some unknown people have stolen the cable. The technical officer of the company IY Srikanth Reddy gave a written complaint of cable theft following which the FIR was registered. Reddy said cost of the cable was around Rs 2 lakh."

Speaking to MiD DAY Reddy said the cable was stolen at night though a security guard, Vinod, was put on duty at the spot. When questioned by the company, Vinod said he had left for home at around midnight and nothing had happened till then. The tender was issued to the private company by Delhi Police Headquarters a few months ago.
