National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recently organized its 14th Foundation Day Function at India International Centre Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

While presiding over the function, Dr Narender Jadhav, Member, Planning Commission, said, "The need of the hour is to revamp the Education sector to become the economic super power. It needs to be made more relevant."

He emphasized the need for periodic revision of curriculum for teachers.

Dr Karan Singh delivered the Foundation day lecture. He said that the task before NCTE is uphill, as the requirement of teachers in near future in terms of shear numbers is massive.u00a0

He also stressed the need to improve the quality of teacher education institutions.

Prof C Seshadri, an Eminent Educationist and Scholar, was honored for his lifetime contribution to school education in general and teacher education in particular.

On the occasion, chairperson, NCTE, Prof MA Siddiqui outlined the recent initiatives taken by the organisation towards fulfillment of its mandate of planned and coordinated development of Teacher Education and highlighted the main issues.
