Medical council says accused doctors were from Dharamsila Cancer Hospital, Jeevan Hospital, Sunderlal Jain Hospital, Max Balaji Hospital and Batra Hospital among others
If you believed quacks practiced only from unnamed clinics in dingy localities, this will be an eye-opener.
While commenting on the case of a city doctor arrested for being a 'fake', the registrar of the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) accepted the organisation last year had discovered about a dozen cases of doctors practicing with false certificates in some of Delhi's well-known hospitals.

Fake doc?
In the aforesaid case, Dr Darshan Kaur, the co-owner of Dr Munjal's Clinic and Maternity Centre at Shastri Nagar, north Delhi, was found to have been practicing from the hospital on a fake certificate. Dr Kaur was exposed by the DMC on August 19, 2009. The Delhi police registered a case of forgery and cheating against Dr Kaur on September 2, 2009.
Cop inaction
Though the police claimed to have investigated the case thoroughly, on February 4, this year, they sent a letter to the DMC stating Dr Kaur was absconding.
However, suspecting shoddy handling of the case and faulty investigation, the DMC officials met Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern) range Karnal Singh. They informed the top cop they had information that Dr Kaur was working in the same hospital.
On intervention of senior police officials, a raid was conducted and Kaur along with her husband were arrested on February 8.u00a0u00a0u00a0
How it unfolded
According to Dr Girish Tyagi, registrar of DMC, last August they had received a request for verification of documents of nine doctors from Dr Munjal's Clinic and Maternity Centre but had only received the details of eight of them. "Later we received the photocopy of Kaur's documents. While verifying them we discovered the number of Darshan Kaur's medical certificate (issued by DMC allowing a doctor to practice in the city), bearing the registration number 12225, was a forged one. The registration number belonged to one Dr Suresh Kumar and cops suspect Kaur had forged the name and had pasted her photograph on it," said Tyagi.
Tyagi added they received a letter from Dr Munjal's Clinic saying that Darshan Kaur had resigned from the hospital. "It was only at the intervention of Joint Commissioner of Police Karnal Singh that Kaur was finally arrested," said Tyagi.
