All of 12 years, Golu is dead. His employer, a former secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, for whom he used to run errands, claims he committed suicide. His inconsolable mother alleges he was murdered.

Golu's real name was Jagtaran Das. He died on the night of July 18, his body found hanging in the bathroom.

The police have closed the chapter, saying there is no substance in the allegations of Golu's parents. "Golu's postmortem report stated hanging as the cause of death. This confirms it was a suicide," Noida Superintendent of Police (Rural) Surender K Verma said.

The allegations of Golu's family are very serious though. His mother claimed the boy saw Atish Sinha, a career diplomat since 1970, having sex with a call girl and Sinha killed him to keep his secret from his daughter.

"This is rubbish. There is no evidence to establish that call girls used to come to Sinha's house," Verma countered when MiD DAY contacted him.

Another startling fact is that there is no police investigation on in the case. The Green Woods Society inu00a0 Greater Noida, where Sinha lives, is where former and serving IAS officers stay. When all efforts to reach Sinha over phone failed, this correspondent tried to meet him in person. However, the guard at the colony gate did not allow entry.

"Sinha is too high even for the law. He used to send my son to the upper floor of his house, whenever such girls used to come over. One day he came down to drink water and saw Sinha sleeping naked with a girl. Sinha threatened him with dire consequences if he opened his mouth before his daughter Anita," said Amarbai, Golu's mother.

She rejected outright the contention that the boy committed suicide.

"There is no reason for a 12-year-old boy to take his own life. My son was sacrificed to save the dignity of his rich master," said Shatrughan Das, Golu's father.

Meanwhile, Bachpan Bachao Andolan an NGO has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA).

"We have urged the NHRC and NLSA to take action under Child Labour Regulation and Prohibition Act 1986, Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and Bonded Labour Act 1976," said Rakesh Senger, national secretary, Bachpan Bachao Andolan.

"The fact that a minor boy was employed as a domestic help is a violation of the law. The employer used to pay Golu Rs 2,000 per month, a violation of the minimum wages act," Rakesh added.
