It hasn't been Christened yet. But its Ahmedabad-based creator claims it can clean the house, perform surveillance related action and also make sure that your pet has its meal on time.

To be launched in Delhi sometime next year, the robot will be priced affordably between Rs 20,000 and 25,000 and will be retailed all over the country.

Small wonder: A group of robotic developers have created this robot, which they claim is mostly based on indigenous technology.

Its makers claim the robot is majorly based on desi technology, which will soon be patented. "The robot can be programmed to do an array of household chores. We have devised a few indigenous technologies that help the robot navigate in unknown environments without any problem. It can even recharge its lithium battery automatically," said Pulkit Gaur, the leading member of a young team of technologists that is working for the last couple of years on robotic products.

Making it

The ideation of the product was done almost two years ago and it took six months for the team to develop a prototype. Now they are looking for retailers. "Initially, people were sceptical but now they have started realising that robotics is the technology of the future. Appliances available in the market are no doubt good and work as per our needs but the biggest drawback in them is that they lack intelligence and modularity. They become obsolete very soon because they do not change according to consumer demands. But robotics keeps changing every day. " said Pulkit. A reason why he says he has kept its price affordable.

Not a man lookalike

Contrary to popular vision, the desi robot doesn't resemble a human being. In fact, it doesn't even have limb extentions. So how does it work?u00a0 "The robot is an intelligent machine that has separate programmes for various functions. Anyone can re-programme it to suit needs. For cleaning the house, it is fitted with a separate water compartment and a broom and mop attachment," said Pulkit.

Its creator says, to feed pets, the owner can put the food item in a compartment at the back of the robot, set the time when the meal needs to be served and set the location of the bowl. "At the set time, the robot will go near the bowl and pour in the food. The robot is intelligent in the sense that every action depends on its owner's command. The functions can also be customised separately. If a customer wants just a cleaner, we can do it for him as well," he added.

What motivates the maker
"Never before in history has innovation offered promise of so much to so many in so short a time." Said by Bill Gates
