One person was killed and another injured when the Andhra Pradesh police opened fire at a group of young boys playing cricket at Sri Kshetra Dharamasthala on Friday evening.
The policemen, who came to the taluk on poll duty,u00a0 were visiting Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala on their way back to their home.

The deceased has been identified as Aithappa while the injured is Udaya. Both stay near the Dharmasthala temple.
They were playing in a ground near the temple with their friends, when a ball hit a policeman. The boys requested the policemen to return the ball, but the police refused to do so. This led to an altercation between the cricket players and the policemen.
The quarrel turned ugly when one of the policemen fired in the air and then at the crowd. Aithappa was seriously injured while Udaya escaped with a minor injury. They were taken to a nearby hospital, butu00a0 Aithappa died on the way.
The incident has sparked a series of violence in Dharmasthala. Additional forces have been deployed in strategic locations and senior police officials have gone to the spot to control the situation.
Gopal Hosur, deputy inspector general of police, western range, told the media that strict action will be taken against the guilty policemen.
