35 Orissa basketballers have narrow escape as bus overturns

As many as 35 basketball players of Orissa had a narrow escape when the bus in which they were travelling overturned while they were on their way to Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, police said on Sunday.


As many as 35 basketball players of Orissa had a narrow escape when the bus in which they were travelling overturned while they were on their way to Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, police said on Sunday.

The bus overturned near Kathajodi Bridge on Saturday when the driver lost control and hit the railing of the bridge.

The bus was carrying 35 players, including 18 girls. Fifteen players - nine girls and six boys - were injured and admitted to the SCB Medical College of Cuttack.

"We had a narrow escape. Thankfully our bus did not fall into the river," one of the injured said.

According to police, the bus was going to Barabati Stadium for a state-level match after a preparatory camp in Puri. They were preparing for the National Junior Basketball Championship starting October 8.
