"Suddenly, many doctors are falling sick. This is really surprising as one out of 10 doctors is falling ill. I think, the weather condition, this time has really hit AIIMS," said Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president, Residents Doctors' Association (RDA), AIIMS.
Doctors also concede that this time the number of patients coming in with complaints of viral infection has gone up too. "The number has gone up by 30 per cent. On an average, we have been witnessing 40-50 patients in the OPD per day. The illness is accompanied with high temperatures - most people have fever in the range of 102-103 degrees," said Dr Randeep Guleria, professor, Department of Medicine, AIIMS.
Consult a doctor
"We are getting 20-30 patients on a daily basis in our Outpatient Department (OPD). The fever is followed by symptoms like high fever, cold and cough," said Dr Sandeep Budhiraja, head of department, Internal Medicine, Max Healthcare.
Doctors also suggest the patient to undergo proper tests before consuming antibiotics. "With the change in the weather conditions, there are various kinds of illnesses going around. People should consult a physician; they should not start taking antibiotics before consulting a doctor. They should get it properly diagnosed," added Dr Budhiraja.
