Saying they want to protect victim's identity, cops keep mum about rape at high-profile township, don't even want to talk about suspect
Au00a0senior employee of a Mumbai-based multinational company (MNC) was allegedly raped at a high profile township near Lonavala on December 10. She registered a police complaint at Paud police station on December 13. Some unconfirmed reports suggest that a resort employee at the township raped the woman. The police refused to confirm this report and remained tight-lipped about the case.
Top officials of Pune Rural Police on condition of anonymity said they had assured the woman's parents that they would protect her identity. But at the same time, they did not give any information about the accused.
Police complaint
According to sources in police, the 29-year-old woman, an MBA degree holder, had lodged a rape complaint at Paud Police station on December 13. Police say that the woman along with 270 colleagues from the MNC had come to the resort for an international conference.
The police are silent about this case stating that the woman's parents agreed to register a police complaint only after the police convinced them that they would not disclose information to the media.
Many senior officers chose to remain mum saying that if the reports are published the woman will be traumatised. The Station Duty Officer said, "I am not aware if such a case has been registered."
Who's the rapist?
The police are also silent about the suspect. While on one hand they stated that it would be highly unfair on the woman if reports about this case were published, on the other hand they denied divulging information about suspect as well.
Police officials said, "We have been asked not to disclose any information about this case."
The incident
According to police sources the incident took place on December 10 between 12 am and 3 am. Sources said that the victim was alone in the room. The suspect allegedly entered her room and raped her.
The victim could not identify the rapist as it was dark. Police said that she returned to Mumbai the next day and after consulting with her parents they came to Pune to lodge a police complaint.
Medical check-up
According to police sources, the woman was admitted to Sassoon Hospital for medical check up but was dischargedu00a0 yesterday morning.
