Aurangabad road mishap: Congress leader Balkrishna Purnekar passes away

Maharashtra Congress Secretary Balkrishna Purnekar, who was injured in a road accident in Aurangabad two days back, passed away on Tuesday

Thane: Maharashtra Congress Secretary Balkrishna Purnekar, who was injured in a road accident in Aurangabad two days back, passed away on Tuesday.

Purnekar, 45, was seriously injured when the car in which he was travelling collided with a bus at Bondla Phata on the Aurangabad-Gangapur road on Sunday. He was travelling in the car with another Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary Sanjay Choupane, and one Ramakant Mhatre.

While Choupane died on Sunday, Purnekar and Mhatre were injured and admitted for treatment to a hospital in Aurangabad, around 300 kms from here in central Maharashtra. Purnekar died at the hospital in Aurangabad in the wee hours today, sources said.

The accident had taken place when they all were returning here from Aurangabad after attending a party meeting.

Choupane and Purnekar were residents of Thane. Purnekar had earlier served as the president of Thane city Congress committee.
