Lift your spirits
The city's newest wine library, CU Copper at Powai stocks a variety of desi and international wines and spirits. WHAT's ON dropped in to sample a few
Before you think to yourself that the city has got yet another exclusive wine place, it's best to clarify that CU
Ambience: The place is not sprawling but one that can blend in with your needsu00a0it suits a semi-official work meet and can also turn into a casual neighbourhood watering hole. The wine library lines up almost two entire walls, while the third wall displays other spirits. But, with the IPL season growing strong, the two Plasma screens are the main area of focus, currently.
Food and wine: The food menu is limited to starters that compliment the various wines from around the world. We decided to sample a few; the Jacob's Creek Shiraz Cabernet (Rs 510) and Mandala Valley Private Collection Shiraz (Rs 380) both had a distinctive, intense flavour. The wine was served with an assortment of breads. For appetisers, we tried the Italian Brochet (Rs 210) and the Chicken Diavole (Rs 250). While the Brochet was disappointing with the fried mushrooms reeking of oil, the Diavole was a better combination of tender meat grilled with a tangy sauce.
Service: Despite a really interesting IPL match streaming live, the staff was prompt and attentive without being intrusive.
At: The Beatle, JMJ House, Orchard Avenue, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. From 6 pm to midnight.
