For medical officers on duty at Pimpri's Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital it was a sight that they will never forget. Rushing a patient to the hospital was a public transport bus.
After the conductor suffered a cardiac arrest on board a bus (MH-12-FC-9005) following a brawl with a passenger, the driver wasted no time. The bus doubled as an ambulance and carried Mahendra Sonawale (41) to the hospital.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
"Our staff told us that an emergency case had come in and we rushed out. We expected the usual ambulance, but were surprised to see that au00a0 bus had been driven to the hospital," said a medical officer on duty.
The driver Rajkumar Sonawale, who also happens to be Mahendra's cousin, said, "It's a coincidence that we were on duty on the same bus. At 10 pm, after we finished our duty and were parking the bus at the depot, a woman accompanied by four men started abusing my cousin. She accused Mahendra of ogling at her and misbehaving while she was on a bus a few days ago."u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
