Postpones nominations for legislative council seats to avoid angering Tara and Shobha

Postpones nominations for legislative council seats to avoid angering Tara and Shobha

Film star Tara will have to wait before she can enter the Karnataka Legislative Council, as the beleaguered chief minister has postponed nomination to the Upper House owing to internal pressure.

MiD DAY had reported on January 12 that B S Yeddyurappa had wanted to nominate Tara for one of the three vacant seats, but his close friend Shobha Karandlaje was against it

A source in the BJP said, "The chief minister has put the nominations on hold till the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls are over in February.

The main reason is the growing opposition in the party against Tara's nomination."

The government was expected to nominate candidates for three seats falling vacant, before 20 Jan. However, Yeddyurappa has now delayed taking a decision.

The chief minister allegedly doesn't want to anger Shobha, whom he had removed from the cabinet to meet the demands of party rebels a couple of months ago.

Postponed

"The chief minister is in a tangle. He is not in a position to strike the right balance between Shobha and his family members in Tara's case.

Easy option before him was to put off the problem and he did exactly the same," said a source close to the CM.

Tara said, " I too heard the nominations have been postponed. I will concentrate on the BBMP polls and leave the rest to the CM."

Family affair

Yeddyurappa's son B Y Raghavendra, a Member of Parliament, is understood to be supporting Tara's nomination.

"It is a clever move by Yeddyurappa's family to keep Shobha at bay. Shobha is opposing Tara's nomination for the same reason," said the source.

The other potential nominees are former minister V Somanna and RSS activist Krishna Bhat. While no one is objecting to Bhat's nomination, party workers are opposing Somanna's nomination for political reasons.
