Mintoo Kumar Singh caught between the rear tyres of a truck near Sarai Kale Khan late on Thursday night |
"Teri Maa Ki" is what Mukesh Jadhav, a truck driver, had to hear after he tried to help a man hit by another truck near Sarai Kaley Khan late on Thursday night.
Mintoo Kumar Singh, a resident of Rajapur, was on his way back riding his pulsar bike with his brother. A truck hit the bike around 12.15 am opposite Siddharth Enclave, near the DND flyway. Mintoo's brother was flung aside due to the impact but he was caught between the back tyres of the truck.u00a0
The driver of the truck fled the scene, leaving him to die. However, Jadhav who was passing by the road on his truck, stopped to help. He took out the jack from his vehicle and rushed towards Mintoo.
He unfastened the tyre to free Mintoo. By the time he took out Mintoo, police and ambulance had arrived on the scene. However, a police constable abused and shooed him away.
"Sahab eik to madad karo aur phir gaali suno. Isliye koi madad nahin karta." (You get abused for helping people. That's the reason no one comes forward)
"Had Jadhav not came forward to help, Mintoo would have died on the spot," said an eyewitness.
