Cops book LS candidate, 10 others for manhandling poll official

Mundhwa police booked Maharashtra Lokshahi Aghadi candidate Nana Kshirsagar and 10 of his supporters on the charges of manhandling a government official, who had asked Kshirsagar to put up permissions procured for their foot march at the front of the vehicles used in his 'padyatra' on Saturday in Ghorpadi.

Kshirsagar and his activists have been booked under sections 353 (obstructing public servant from discharge of duty), 351 (assault), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code.

Government employee Premsagar Pandurang Shende (52) from Wadgaonsheri, presently in charge of the flying squad of the election department, has filed the complaint at Mundhwa police station. Kshirsagar and his aides are yet to be arrested, said Mundhwa police.

Inspector J S Pathan, in- charge of Mundhwa police station, said, "Shende and his team was video-recording the padyatra of Nana Kshirsagar.

During the campaigning, the officials asked him and his workers to produce relevant permissions, which are required to be displayed during the march. Although Kshirsagar had all the documents, they were not displayed on the frontal part of the vehicles used in campaigning."

"When Kshirsagar was asked to put up the documents in front, Shende was manhandled and also threatened of dire consequences by Kshirsagar. The party workers also threatened Shende with filing false complaints against him," Pathan said.

Kshirsagar said, "Shende and his associates beat me up, due to which I had to take treatment at Sassoon Hospital. We had secured all the permissions, but the government officials were adamant that we have the documents pasted on the front of the vehicles. We will raise this issue after voting is over."
