Crime Branch suspects the college student is part of intn'l drug ringCentral Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths nabbed a 25-year-old student from Costa Rica yesterday who had taken to peddling cocaine to make extra bucks. The police have seized 250 grams of cocaine worth Rs 25 lakh from him. Cops also recovered Rs 49,500 in cash and two mobile phones, which he used to contact his clients.
According to the police, Zana Abdul Karim Coulibaly got into a drug ring during his stay in the city. He is in the final year of BBM at the Mianda college in JB Nagar.
He got in touch with some Nigerians and foreign tourists and saw opportunity in the form of getting drugs from them and selling them to his clients in the city.
Assistant Commissioner of Police R Lakshman said Zana's main clients were young techies working in IT and BPO firms in the city. He was in regular touch with them and the cocaine usually exchanged hands in parks and pubs.
The CCB is now trying to trace the ring's members with the help of the numbers in Coulibaly's cellphones. They suspect that he is part of an international racket which supplies drugs to states like Goa, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
"We are tracking the members down to ascertain how the drugs are brought into the country and the state," said Lakshman. The CCB officials are also tracking down Coulibaly's clients and are contemplating booking them under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
