Two cousins who decided to beat the heat with a splash, drowned in Ghodnadi river at Shrigonda in Ahmednagar district.

They have been identified as Kiran Ramdas Rasal (7) and Tushar Kashinath Kotwal (8). According to the Rasals, Kiran and Tushar are cousins studying in different schools. Tushar had come to Danewadi to spend his summer vacations with Kiran. They had gone for a swim in the river on Sunday morning along with their two common friends.

Tushar first jumped into the water but could not swim. Seeing him drowning Kiran jumped to rescue his cousin and in the process he himself drowned. When their friends standing on the banks raised an alarm, villagers fished them out of water and rushed the duo to a nearby hospital, but it was too late. The cousins were declared dead on arrival. The police are yet to register a case in this regard.
