Discuss rebels' future, current state of Yeddyurappa governmentFacing uncertainty about their future, ten MLAs went to meet the Governor with JD(S) president HD Kumaraswamy last night to discuss current developments. After the interaction, Kumarswamy blamed the Yeddyurappa government for the crisis that had rocked the state and said there was no possibility of him having tried to topple the government.
The ten MLAs included five from the BJP and five independents. Sources said Kumarswamy discussed the fate of the rebels and the current state of the government with the Governor. He made it clear that he hadn't tried to lure any BJP MLAs away from the party and said that the BJP was trying to purchase MLAs from other parties.
u00a0"The rebels were free birds, they were never under my control. I never kept them in resorts as was alleged by the BJP. For the dissidents, the Yeddyurappa government had failed and they wanted to change their political career. They asked me for help. I never approached them to bring about political uncertainty in Karnataka," said Kumaraswamy.
"The current BJP government is doing the worst thing by trying to purchase other parties' legislative members through what they are calling Operation Kamala. All party members are free to condemn their party but Yeddyurappa and Co do not think that way. I am waiting for the court's decision on November 2 and will take necessary steps after that," he added.
Story so farThe rebel MLAs were disqualified by Speaker K G Bopaiah along with five independent MLAs under the provisions of the anti-defection law on October 10. The case of the five independent MLAs will be heard on November 2 by a larger bench.
The decision of the MLAs to withdraw support to the BJP government nudged Chief Minister BS Yedduyrappa towards a minority. But, after the Speaker disqualified them, the numbers changed and favoured Yeddyurappa who then went on to win two votes of confidence in the Assembly.The High Court had made it clear, however, that its decision on the 16 rebel MLAs would impact the vote of confidence won by theu00a0government.
