And if you do, check out AY clothes at Colaba, where you can pick up tops, kurtis and accessories, even in plus sizes, marked with cute hearts
Ayesha Kumar has spent a long time shopping for clothes that just don't fit. Frustrated of not getting the clothes she liked in a variety of sizes, and hating the ones she did get them in, she resorted to making her own clothes. "And that's how it all began. People would ask me what I'm wearing and where did I get it. When I'd say I made it myself, they'd ask if I could make it for them," she says. Ayesha started taking orders and retailing out of her home in Colaba.
"But then I ran out of space. I was storing the clothes in my daughter's room. When she came back after finishing her studies abroad, I decided to move out. Luckily I found this space," she smiles. Three-month-old AY occupies a cute corner just beside the lane next to Caf ufffd Coffee Day, near Camy Wafers.
The otherwise poky little space is lit up with wrought iron mirrors, and pretty hand-painted trunks. A corner is curtained off with a pretty curtain for a trial room and two ropes and a wooden pole serve as a quirky clothes rack.
The clothes though, weren't that impressive and the ones that were, seemed over priced. AY only stocks kurtis, shirts and tunics. No lowers. She sticks to cottons, linen and satin, and dresses them up with borders, piping, embroidery and in some cases, bling. There were some pretty summery tunics we loved. A printed cobalt blueu00a0 tunic in soft cotton came for Rs 1,600 while a satin balloon top in magenta and black was priced at Rs 2,000. Another dress shirt in linen was smart and flexible. Every piece comes in three sizes ufffd 38, 40 and 46 all marked with one heart, two hearts or three. AY has a pretty collection of accessories too with lots of long necklaces in coral, plastic, acrylic or metal beads. The accessories are in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 1,500, though there's a sale now so drop in for a good 40% slash.
But would shoppers really give the Causeway and its 100 buck delights a miss for not-so-different clothing that comes at above Rs 1,000? Only time will tell.
