Egyptian deported for flouting visit visa norm

The Special Branch of the Pune police investigated a case, based on a tip-off and found that Samar Ahmed Mohammad Ahmed Ilmavi, a 38-year-old Egyptian national who was in the city on a tourist visa, was giving religious discourses.


The Special Branch of the Pune police investigated a case, based on a tip-off and found that Samar Ahmed Mohammad Ahmed Ilmavi, a 38-year-old Egyptian national who was in the city on a tourist visa, was giving religious discourses.

She was arrested and deported to Egypt, as she was not allowed to engage in such activities while on a tourist visa. Ilmavi was staying at Hotel Aurora Tower in Camp for the past few months and her visa was valid till July 2013.

"Though she was on a tourist visa, she was involved in giving religious discourses at various places in the city. As per her visit visa norms, she cannot do any such work," said Police Inspector C P Patil.

"We receive the tip-off a few days ago and began investigating. We found that the woman was engaged in discourse activities," said Police Inspector C P Patil. "We arrested her under the relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and Passport Act and on February 6, she was deported to Egypt from Mumbai," Patil added.u00a0
