The message is loud and clear. On December 21 MiD DAY had reported how Joint Traffic Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg made an example out of the son of a retired police officer on Monday, making the point that no one is above the law.
Garg was going towards Burari to inspect the arrangements at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) plenary session when he noticed a car with tinted glasses and a fancy number plate with Delhi police logos on the rear and front.
Garg hailed the driver who stopped his car. Garg questioned the man behind the wheels who initially tried to bluff and posed as a cop. But realising the gravity of the situation, he started speaking the truth. The culprit conceded that his was an inspector with Delhi police and had retired recently. Garg then confiscated his driving licence and asked him to collect it from his office.
The violator was identified as Lala Ram. He had accepted his fault and had taken off the dark films from his car windows and the Delhi police logos. But for violating rules he was challaned Rs 2100. To send out a strong message to one and all, Garg posted his experience on the famous Delhi Traffic police wall on facebook. "Everyone, even the authorities, have to follow rules. No influential person, not even Delhi police officials are abovethe law and every violator will be prosecuted," he said.
