Did YSR realise what he was in for when he said he wanted to see the villagers' problems with his own eyes?

A Tamil film had speculated what might happen if a chief minister were kidnapped by desperate villagers. The YSR crisis echoes many questions raised in the film.

Following his tracks:u00a0 YSR's chopper was supposed to follow the Hyderabad-Chittoor route, but took a detour towards eastwards and then headed towards the Nallamala hills, where it reportedly disappeared

YSR's helicopter lost contact with the control tower when it was flying above the Nallamala forests in Kurnool district yesterday.

Reel to real? The story in Desiya Geetham (Tamil) seems to tell a tale similar to YSR's present fortunes

Before setting out, he told reporters, "I am going to the remote villages to check whether they have basic amenities." He ought to have given his staff enough notice to arrange for security, but he did not.

In the Tamil film Desiya Geetham (1999), directed by Cheran, a chief minister is kidnapped and shown the harsh realities of village life. Four unemployed youth decide to improve the lot of their village. They take help from a freedom fighter and decide to teach a lesson to the chief minister. They make him live in a village so that he understands their plight.

He sees how they struggle for water. He also sees how petty politics ruins relationships in the village.

After he has seen enough, the four youth help the CM return to his capital.

Many parallels between what happened in the film, and what happened to YSR, can be drawn.
