Airport line that opens today will initially have trains running for only 16 hours
Delhi Metro's Airport Express opens its gates for the public from 2 pm Wednesday. Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMPEL) sources said, the trains will initially run for 16 hours on the high-speed corridor, from 6 am to 10 pm.
Most international fliers would however have to wait for some more time to benefit from the service as most planes fly in and out of the country late at night. "Later on, the time may be increased to 20 hours considering the international fliers," said sources.
Passengers of more than 200 flights would not be able to benefit from the Metro services as of now. "Not only the international fliers, even those taking early morning flights will have to take the road to reach the airport for now," said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official. The Central Industrial Security Force which will handle the line's security completed its deployment of 400 personnel on Tuesday and conducted anti-sabotage and other mandatory operations.
"For queries about train timings, its frequency and other details, commuters can dial 30802080, a dedicated helpline set up by the operator. The customer care number will be functional everyday from 6 am to 10 pm," said the official.
Quick facts
The length of the corridor is 23-km which would be covered in 20 minutes. The trains on high-speed link initially will run at a speed of 105km per hour. The four operational stations on the line are New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, IGI Airport and Dwarka Sec-21.
