The musical, The Dayu00a0I Met the Prince, has music, magic, song, dance and plenty of humour
The weekend promises magical fare for theatre lovers in the city. Working Title, a troupe from Mumbai, is staging The Day I Met The Prince. The play, based on one of Kuo Pao Kun's works, is directed by Jaimini Pathak.
Kuo Pao Kun was a playwright, theatre director, and arts activist in Singapore who wrote and directed both Mandarin and English plays.
u00a0"When I read the book, I loved the way it is laid out with many important messages which are inspiring. This book celebrates the uniqueness, diversity and identity of every individual. The issues reflected in the book are very relevant to a country like ours which is so rich in culture and diversity. This appealed to me," says Jaimini. Though a children's play, it is sure to appeal to adults as well.
What to expect?
The play offers a fantasy-filled wink at the intense hurry that everyone seems to be in, while gently creating an interactive space for children.
"You will witness the use of magic, live music, song and dance in this play. It is equally humorous as well. Children can relate to it as it will be highly interactive as the play requires active involvement from the audience," says Jaimini.
"We rehearsed for two months and we were trained by professional magicians. The little surprises of magical moments and the eight songs flow in progression to make it a complete fun-filled play," he adds.
Meet the group
Working Title is a theatre company based out of Mumbai. Their effort has been to do alternative offbeat work, with fresh voices and talent, in a sustained manner over the last 10 years. The effort has also been to reach out to diverse audiences ranging from the age of 5 to 60. They also conduct theatre workshops, where the scope of workshops ranges from basic acting to script writing and directing.
