CCB officials also confiscated duplicate goods worth over Rs 2 lakhThe Central Crime Branch has arrested a 22-year-old youth with his two associates for stealing car stereos, and replacing them with fake ones over a period of three years. The gang is also accused of introducing fake stereos in the market worth Rs 15 lakh.

fake ones worth Rs 15 lakh in the marketIn 2007, the accused Raj Singh, a Rajasthan resident, loved Sukanya, a girl from the neighbourhood. But since she was a minor then, her parents were opposed to the idea. So Singh and Sukanya ran away to Bangalore where they got married. Since Singh had some experience in repairing cars, he got a job in a garage as a serviceman.u00a0 But since the pay was low, the newly married couple had frequent quarrels. This led Singh to look for other options.
Experienced hand
Since the job mostly required him to change car stereos often, he knew their actual prices. He originally planned to steal the stereos, but knew that it would be noticed immediately. So, he decided to replace the original accessories with fake ones. The only difference here would be the original brand's labels, which he would put on the duplicate stereos.
The plan was an apparent success, because he made more than Rs 8 lakh in a span of two years. His wife was happy with the sudden wealth, but she never asked him how he was getting it.u00a0 In September 2009, the couple paid a visit to Sukanya's parents, who were please by the change, and though he was employed with a big firm.
This also impressed his two friends, M Bhavarlal and Jeetendra Singh, who asked him to help get them jobs in Bangalore. Singh took them into his confidence, and told them his real business. He then offered them to help him distribute duplicate stereos in the market, to help boost their racket. The duo agreed, and put their plan in action when they came back to the city.
In the netBut soon enough, customers started complaining of faulty and duplicate stereos, and eventually, informed the police. The case was transferred to the CCB, who finally arrested them on Monday. The CCB hasu00a0 recovered fake goods worth Rs 2 lakh from the three.
S H Duggappa, ACP (CCB) said, "Not only they cheated companies, but also lot of customers. They have been sent to judicial custody. An investigation is on."
