After its CCTV images of German Bakery blast turned out to be hazy, hotel likely to go in for a better and more expensive camera
After images of the German Bakery blast captured by the CCTV camera installed in Hotel O turned out to be too hazy to throw light on the Valentine's Day eve terror attack, the hotel is now said to be going in for the most hi-tech camera available.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Manish Shah, director of Safe House Security that supplies security systems to Hotel O, said the hotel management had asked him for a Rs 95,000 camera, the most expensive in the market.
Manish said the camera that captured images of the German Bakery blast was a basic model available for Rs 8,000.
"I have supplied the CCTV cameras to them. The earlier one was worth Rs 8,000, a standard camera that is in use at most big hotels in the city. It meets all requirements, but at the same time it is very basic," said Shah.
"After the blast, the management has asked us to supply our most expensive CCTV camera, worth Rs 95,000."
According to Shah, the camera that has been requested is a high-speed dome camera that can capture images up to a half-kilometre away in great detail. It comes with pan, tilt and zoom functions.
"It pans 360 degrees and automatically adjusts itself to light conditions," said Shah.
Hotel O sources confirmed an upgrade in security equipment was on the cards, but hotel security head Ajit Telang would not comment on it, saying he was not authorised to reveal details.
A member of the hotel staff said, "In fact, there was also talk of getting a luggage detector worth Rs 32 lakh."
When MiD DAY spoke to Neelam Seolekar, managing director of Hotel O, she said the hotel had no security system upgrade plans.
"This is just loose talk, no such thing is happening. We already have a security system in place that meets international standards and don't need to upgrade any facilities," said Seolekar. "We have had important events and dignitaries regularly at the hotel, and for this purpose our security is already the best."
