K'taka scientist untraced, search intensified

A joint operation has been launched by the CISF and the local police to trace a scientist of Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, who went missing four days back, a top police official said.
"Intensive search is being carried out round the clock by a 40-member team comprising the CISF and local police personnel to trace N Mahalingam, missing since June 8 from the Kaiga township," Superintendent of Police, Uttara Kannada Raman Gupta said.
It is being investigated whether it is case of kidnap or the 47-year-old scientist who worked in the Simulator Training Division of the Power Plant went somewhere by himself. The scientist, who went for a morning walk on June 8, did not return, he said.
A complaint was lodged by his wife on June 8 in Mallapur police station in Karwar.
A joint search team was set up immediately and it combed the entire Kaiga residential campus spread over 100 acres and searched a pond as part of the operation, Gupta said.
"Till now no clue has been found," he said.
