'Htat ta ya' is a word meaning a hundred layers and describes the fried flaky multilayered paratha found in Myanmar. While this shows the reach of the humble paratha, the newly-opened eatery on DP Road showcases the varieties on offer.

Paneer Tikka Paratha

The restaurant is open and spacious and as we sunk into the comfortable chairs, we found ourselves unwinding to soothing music. Situated on the busy DP Road, the crowds mostly consisted of working people as well as students.u00a0u00a0

Apart from regular parathas, they also offer signature parathas like Paneer Tikka Paratha, Chilli Milli Paratha, Pahadi Paratha, Koki Paratha and even Chocolate Paratha.u00a0

The Paneer Tikka Paratha (Rs 119) consisted of marinated paneer, capsicum, tomato, green chilli and carrots. All the vegetables were well-cooked and stuffed into flour and baked in minimum oil. The Chilli Milli Paratha (Rs 119) was stuffed with green and red chilli, as well as capsicum, potato and spring onions. The first bite transported us straight to Dilli's parathe wali gali. Not for the calorie-conscious, these parathas oozed richness and was a complete meal by itself.

The Koki Paratha (Rs 79) is something, we were told, that is rarely found in Pune. This typical Sindhi-style paratha is made from onions, green chilli and coriander, and was the only paratha in the menu that is cholesterol-free since it can be made with less oil.

We tried their "crowd puller" Chocolate Paratha and loved the sugar rush. Nutella paste is apparently the secret ingredient behind it.

The parathas are served with yellow dal, yoghurt and chhole and the owners claim the parathas are made from fresh whole-wheat flour. They also have a special Calendar Paratha, one for each day. We felt that Friday topped the list with its Aalu Bhujia Paratha (Rs 119). The spicy fried potato and bhujia combination is the ultimate snack for lazy evenings.

They offer Sprout ke Parathe for health-conscious people or those who are fasting. If you enjoy family meals, opt for the Paratha Baskets, which are value-for-money (Rs 199) as they offer four parathas ufffd aalu, muli, gobi and methi. The Premium Basket offers paneer, cheese, mushroom and baby corn (Rs 249). We ended the meal with a frothy Lassi (Rs 25), which is a must-try as well.

OPEN 9 am to 11 pm
