The three-day festival also promises to be environment friendly. They aim to raise awareness about conserving ecology while promoting technology. The festival Axlerate 2011 is expecting students to participate from across the country. Teams from places including Indore, Bhopal, Satara among others have already registered.
Ajinkya Kulthe, one of the organisers of the fest, said, "We plan to take a pledge from students that they will ensure that technology and environment would go hand-in-hand. Besides technical events, we will also have a few events for those coming from non technical backgrounds like quizzes, among others."
When asked the reason behind including environment in their theme, Kulthe said, "Our fest back in 2009 was 'Go Green' and in 2010 it was 'Innovation and Technology'. This time we thought of amalgamating both and hence the theme, Nurturing Growth." In fact so inspired are students by their theme that they have proposed a tree-plantation drive in March.
The festival will see many innovative events. Rally Mania will have students making their own combustion engines and racing the vehicle on a track. Robotica will see students make their own private robots programmed for a multitude of tasks.
The special attraction of the festival is a 'Chord' motorbike that has been made by students, which will be displayed at the event.
The festival has been organised on a modest budget of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 7 lakh that includes cash prizes and gift coupons worth Rs 5 lakh.
