in 2009The Bharati Nagar police have taken up a case of cheating and forgery against the MLA, his wife and three others on Monday and are investigating. Ziaulla Sheriff, who heads India Builders, a reputed construction company in the city, alleged that Baig booked a penthouse for Rs 50 lakh on Haines Road -- in the up-market Coles Park area -- and paid a booking amount of Rs 5 lakh.
Baig assured the builder that he would pay the remaining amount at the time of execution of the sale deed. However, he has not made any further payment till date. "No paperwork has been done so far, and neither has the GPA been executed or a sale agreement been completed since Baig needs to pay the remaining amount," Sheriff said adding that the MLA has meanwhile taken control of the penthouse and begun renovating.
When the company came to know about the activities, Baig was approached and the remaining amount was sought.u00a0u00a0However, the builder has also alleged that Baig threatened him with dire consequences. Sheriff claims that last month, he discovered that the MLA, with the help of his associates Shakeel Ahmed Khan and a local realtor named Dayanand Pai, created a fake GPA executed in the Baig's name by forging the builder's signature.
The penthouse, according to Sheriff, was then sold to certain Vijanthimala for Rs 1.5 crore. "This is a clear case of cheating and extortion and misuse of power. I have requested the police for a detailed investigation into the matter," Sheriff said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East division) Chandrashekhar said that they have taken up a case of cheating and forgery and are investigating. Meanwhile, Baig is out of station and remains unavailable for comment.
