Maharashtra to spend Rs 80 cr to renovate, repair Mantralaya

The Maharashtra government has proposed an expenditure of Rs 80 crore for renovation and repair of its state secretariat building Mantralaya, whose top floors were gutted recently in a massive blaze.


The Public Works Department (PWD) proposed the expenditure in the supplementary demands, tabled in the legislature today. Accordingly, Rs 50 crore would be spent on "repair, renovation and electrification of the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the building, while Rs 30 crore would be spent on "shifting expenses, repair works and rent to be paid for some Mantralaya administrative departments shifted to other places".u00a0

The government also proposed to spend Rs 243 crore on maintenance andrepair of government office buildings at various other places in the state.

The PWD had recently submitted refurbishment plans for the secretariatbuilding which includes costly fire-proof building materials and newequipmen. The restoration plan drawn up by a renowned architect and submitted by the PWD envisaged an extensive damage control work costing over Rs 100 crore.u00a0
