Bangalore kids are gearing up to play an extra innings in their lives, as Indian Premier League Season 3 now plans to have a child anchor for the first time.

Over 25 children wishing to be a 'Super Smart Kid', who will play the 'Extraaa innings' in the IPL series to kick off in March, participated in a talent hunt that took place in the city yesterday.

The auditions are being held in select cities, which include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Chandigarh, Chennai and Jaipur.

The audition in the city drew kids aged 8-14 from various schools.

"Cricket is my favourite game. I'm good at batting and, so yes, I want to be a Super Smart Kid. That's why I have participated in today's audition," said 13-year-old Avaneesh Acharya from Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Kids from the city participated in auditions that took place as part ofu00a0 'Super Smart Kids' selection process.

"This is one of the final rounds of auditions," said Samrat Ashok Gautam, coordinator of the event in Chandigarh and Bangalore for Multi Screen Media Private Limited. "We had around 25 kids today.

Out of five hundred kids who have already participated in several rounds of auditions, only eight will be chosen."

Extraaa innings

"The super smart kids will be finalised shortly," added Gautam. "They will be trained further for the series."

The chosen ones will play the IPL T-20 extra innings on and off the ground along with celebrated players and actors after a rigorous training.

The training aims to make them confident and camera friendly, besides helping them express their flair for cricket. The 'Super Smart Kids' will also interact with top cricketers after matches.

They will have their say on the game from studios throughout series, which organisers believe is a platform for kids.u00a0

"I believe it's a good move, since every child in India is oriented toward cricket," said HR Gopala Krishna, renowned cricket statistician and former member of the Statistical Sub Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

"They can make their career in cricket related professions, if they take up their roles seriously."

All set to play

Kids from city too were confident of making it to the Super Smart Kids after auditions. "I'm confident of making it to the final eight," added Avaneesh. "I have done my best and will wait for final announcement."u00a0
