Suspended deputy municipal commissioner Deepak Chavan allegedly attacked a news reporter and cameraman yesterday

The Vartak Nagar police have booked suspended deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) Deepak Chavan for assaulting a reporter and cameraman from news channel News Nation. Chavan, who had been suspended on Friday, had allegedly colluded with the builders of the Mumbra structure.

According to the police, on Saturday morning around 11.30 am reporter Sonu Kannaujia and cameraman Imran Siddiqui visited Chavan's Thane residence for a byte on his suspension in Mumbra illegal building collapse issue. Chavan refused to speak to them, citing ill health and said he was going to a clinic for treatment.u00a0

When Chavan realised that the camera was on, he turned around and slapped the cameraman. The suspended commissioner's accomplice snatched the camera and pushed the cameraman against the wall. Both men continued to thrash the cameraman and reporter. Chavan then rushed to the Vartak Nagar police station and lodged an FIR against the two men for trespassing.
