Saroj Khan, the undisputed queen of Bollywood choreography has for over two decades made actors like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi and Aishwarya Rai dance to heru00a0 tunes. And now it is Bangalore's turn to follow in her footsteps. The dance guru is in town with a ten-day-long workshop teaching you the basics of moves that rock tinsel town. Organised by Samprati, a city dance studio, the sessions are aimed to teach young people the influence and importance of classical dance in Bollywood. While explaining the reason for inviting Saroj Khan to conduct a workshop, Padmini Ravi, the noted Bharatnatyam dancer and the founder of Samprati says, "Saroj and I have a long association. Moreover, the idea is to touch all the classical points through Bollywood moves and also educate them about the departure points from where the moves blend with other styles."
The ten-day workshop, which will combine Bollywood jhatkas with classical moves, is open to people of all age groups.

Sway to the tunes of Bengal's wandering minstrels

From the districts of Nadia, Purulia and Bankura in West Bengal, a group of bauls or wandering minstrels are coming to town with their philosophical musings through music. The Bauls, who seek God in themselves rather than everywhere else, believe in reaching up to the higher state of being through their music and use traditional percussion instruments. The performers include Golam Fakir on vocals and the Dotara, Akkas Fakir on vocals and the Dubki, Arman Fakir on vocals and the Dotara, Noor Alam Khan on vocals and Dotara, Babu Fakir on vocals and Dotara, Bhagbat Mahato on the Dhamsa, Sibsankar Kalindi on the Madol, Tabla and Clarinet, Sourav Mondal on vocals, Mohan Patrau00a0 onu00a0 the flute and Sanatan Das on the Dhol.

Motley Theatre from Mumbai is back this weekend with their English play Antigone starring Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Benjamin Gilani and Heeba Shah among others. Directed by Pt Satyadev Dubey, the story revolves around the life of Antigone, a young girl against the backdrop of a totalitarian state. Antigone's father dies and her brothers wage a war against her uncle Creon, the King. In the war, Polynices, one of her brothers is killed. The King issues an edict that Polynices should not be provided a religious burial. Anybody, who defies the king, will be killed. Antigone tries to bury Polynices and is arrested. The play, a tragedy written by Sophocles follows the Greek style of theatre and shows how characters try to deal with life, death, happiness, love, honour and duty. The sets constructed for the play are particularly interesting with an archway being used throughout the play in different ways.u00a0
