Cops arrest thieves who stole to fund construction of their house

City crime branch officials nabbed two burglars while they were trying to exchange US$ 3,000 at the foreign exchange office in Jayanagar.

The arrested have been identified as Vadivelu (29) and Perumalu (33), both hailing from Tiraputturu district in Tamil Nadu.

During interrogation, it emerged that they had stolen the foreign currencyu00a0 from Basaveshwar Nagar last year.

However, they didn't know how to get it converted into Indian currency. Later, on a friend's advice, they went to the foreign exchange office.

When the officials at the foreign exchange office asked them to show their passport, they got anxious, as they didn't have one.u00a0 Their hesitation made the officer suspicious and he tipped the cops.

The men subsequently admitted to have involved in over a dozen burglaries across the city since 2008.

Inspector H Siddappa of the crime branch said, "They used to come to Bangalore in the evening and return to Tamil Nadu at night after committing the robberies.

They then used to sell off their booty and use the money for the construction of their house." The policeu00a0 recovered cash and jewellery worth over Rs 37 lakh from the men.
