Traffic police will put up 10 more variable message signboards in different parts of the city
Encouragedu00a0by the positive response to the Variable Message Signboards (VMS) installed across the city, the traffic police have decided to install 10 more to give up-to-date information to motorists.u00a0
The boards provide relevant updates on the traffic situation and even guide motorists on alternative routes they can take to avoid clogged roads. The Traffic Management Centre (TMC) updates the boards on a minute-to-minute basis based on latest inputs provided by on-duty traffic officers in various parts of the city.
Techie Preetham Kumar vouches for the usability of these boards. "The signboards have helped me on several occasions. Messages are flashed whenever there are traffic jams and roadblocks. I have taken deviations based on the information to reach my office on Old Airport Road on time and avoided being reprimanded by my boss."
Preetham also advocates the use of the boards by all motorists. "We must read the VMS and not ignore them like we are prone to doing. They are also helpful for people who come from other states," he added.
"The VMS put up opposite Jayadeva Hospital, J D Marg, Konanakunte (Kanakapura road) and Freedom Park (Opposite Old Central Jail) were activated yesterday.
The VMS on Indiranagar 100 feet road, Dell (Opp Maruthi InfoTech, inner ring road), Kundanahalli Gate and near Jnana Bharathi (Mysore Road) will be activated by the weekend. The ones on Magadi road and Rajajinagar will take some time. But, all ten will be working by month-end," said R Sudhir, sub-inspector, TMC.
