PMC to form eatery zone

To rehabilitate the displaced hawkers, the PMC is planning to establish an eatery zone in Pune.

Space for the zone will be finalised after meetings with all ward offices.

Following the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the PMC took strict action against around 2,000 hawkers in the city in February, clearing 45 roads. These roads have been established as no-hawker-zone.

"We are exploring areas that will not cause a traffic jam. Our object is to rehabilitate hawkers," said Rajendra Jagtap, additional municipal commissioner.

The corporation is also deciding if the zones would run only on specific days or specific times, and issue of parking space near that zone.u00a0
