The Delhi Police is trying to find out which insect infested the 'chhole-chawal' served to students in a central Delhi school as mid day meals on Thursday


The Delhi Police is trying to find out which insect infested the 'chhole-chawal' served to students in a central Delhi school as mid day meals on Thursday.

At least 29 students fell ill allegedly after eating the meal at the Government Girls Middle School in Hauz Qazi near Ajmeri Gate. According to the students, they ate 'chhole-chawal' that smelt bad and tasted stale and had a dead insect in it.

The girls were admitted in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital where they were diagnosed with mild food poisoning. Though they had not been discharged till late on Thursday evening, doctors said none of them was serious.

Police have registered a case of endangering human life by an act of negligence and have also lifted samples of the food supplied to the school by an NGO.

"No arrest has been made so far. We are investigating the matter," said DCP (central) Jaspal Singh.
