Orders inquiry after allegations of police inaction by boy's parents


Home Minister R R Patil visited Shubham Shirke's parent's home yesterday in Adarshnagar at Dighi and offered his condolences. Patil asked police officials to investigate why the Bhosari police did not take cognizance when the parents of murder victim Shubham had called to report that their son had been kidnapped.

Sudhir Nikam, Shubham's maternal uncle, said, "Patil sir came at 2 pm and had a conversation with the family for almost 30 minutes. He called famous lawyer Ujjwal Nikam and asked him to take up Shubham's case."

He also instructed the Vishrantwadi police to investigate the case impartially and without any pressure.

As Shubham's parents and his younger brother Sujay will no longer be staying at their Adarshnagar residence, Patil promised that Sujay's admission would be taken care of when they shift.

Nikam said that he has expressed his views about the Juvenile Act and said that there is need to amend it. He further said that the police has have been instructed to investigate why the Bhosari police did not take cognizance of the case when the family called for help.u00a0Senior PI Motichand Rathod of Vishtantwadi police station said that police custody of Amit Nair has been extended till April 7.
