Ikyatha Yesarala becomes the first listener to share space with actor Pooja Gandhi and cricketer Robin Uthappa, thanks to Play Your Music Day initiative

In yet another pioneering initiative in the music radio space in the country, 94.3 Radio One yesterday launched 'Play Your Music Day' across the nation.

A total of 1,000 listeners will be chosen across seven cities every month. The chosen ones will come to the radio station's office and play their favourite songs.

This will be the first time ever that a music station will open its doors to music lovers to take control of the airwaves.

Ikyatha Yesarala wins the Radio One Play Your Music Day award. Actor Pooja Gandhi and cricketer Robin Uthappa were present at the event at Opus yesterday.

The Bangalore kick-off of Play Your Music Day saw popular Kannada actress Pooja Gandhi and cricketer Robin Uthappa pick the first listener to go on air from the city.

The celebrities asked the selected volunteers questions on music and at the end of the contest the first listener was picked to go on air.

The 1,000 listeners chosen across the nation will also share space with their favourite movie stars, musicians and cricketers.

Announcing the initiative in the city, Shyju Varkey, station head, Bangalore, and national marketing head, 94.3 Radio One, said, "Things like this are what a specialist music station does, versus the other general ones.

We have continued to break new ground on and off air and involve the listeners as much as possible." He added people at Radio One were passionate about music.

"Many of those who work here are musicians themselves. We are the first station to play 13 songs per hour and to not repeat any songs in one day, a feat that no other radio station has even tried.

We have never created a divide between film and non-film music. For us, good music is good music," Varkey said.

He said, "We will use print, outdoor and other innovative methods to 'own the music space' and to promote Play Your Music Day.

There will even be a television campaign."

To further drive home the message, Radio One's new anthem, composed and performed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, passionately invites music junkies with 'Aao Apna Gaana Bajao... Come and Play Your Song'.

Radio One has pioneered the spirit and passion for music and is the only 'music specialist' in the radio space in the country. It has lived up to its brand promise of 'Maximum music, Maximum choice.'
