A local court on Wednesday allowed the Madhya Pradesh police to interrogate Samir Kulkarni, an accused in Malegaon blast case, in a case relating to arson at a church and sent him to judicial custody.

Kulkarni, who would be in the judicial custody till February 2, is to be questioned in connection with arson at a church in the cantonment area here last year.


After he was produced in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class Sanjay Singh, the MP police sought permission to quiz him in connection with the arson at St Peter and Paul Cathedral here on September 18 last year.


Kulkarni on Wednesday moved three applications in the court seeking permission to talk to his advocates to contest the forthcoming general elections, initiate contempt proceedings against MP police for allegedly violating court orders and seeking proper treatment and food.


His counsels Narendra Nikhare and Dipak Panjwani asked the court to launch contempt proceedings against MP police alleging that despite the court's directive of December 30 here that their client should be sent to Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai, he was detained by the Madhya Pradesh police.


On December 30, a court of JMFC had turned down the MP police application seeking police remand of Kulkarni who was brought here from Maharashtra. Then, the court had asked the MP police to take back the Malegaon accused to Mumbai Jail, Kulkarni's counsels said.


On January 3, the MP police filed a revision application and Kulkarni was produced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Raju Kumar Singh who also turned down their plea seeking police remand, they added. The JMFC has fixed February 3 for next hearing.
