No sign of Shankar in the album, but SEL's managed an average build-up score to Sajid Khan's multi-starrer

After his last film Heyy Babyy, we don't have many expectations from Sajid Khan's Housefull. Flaky. Check.
'Inspired' scenes which could also be straight rip offs from Hollywood flicks. Check. Well choreographed songs that will make it to dandiya and wedding playlists. Check. Which is a pity as the man is super funny as a TV host.
Sajid had the sense to stick with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy who bring classy pulp to the project. The highlight for me is the trippy Loser with jazz-trained Vivenne Pocha, who sounds smoking hot on the track. The hero of this track has got to be Amitabh Bhattacharya's line: "Such a panauti." It's a gem typical of Mumbaiyya street shtick and is downright hilarious, fitting for a comedy.
Shankar could have taken the opening track Oh girl you're mine onto a supersonic level but he's nowhere on the album. Singer Tarun Sagar manages impressively and we get a feeling that the DJ Whosane mix will quake the floors.
Papa jag jayega builds slowly -- it slides in smoothly someplace between a seductive ballad and a banging dance hit. Mika is also rakishly confident in his cover of the Kishore superhit Aapka kya hoga from Laawaris. Like all classics, it's an easy sureshot route to the top.
Sunidhi Chauhan and Shabbir Kumar shine on in.
I don't know what to do, which again has a classic flavour especially in Sunidhi's 60s style impersonation of the likes of Shamshad Begum and Shabbir's in-your-face nod to Rafi.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy know how to make flaky sound cool but there's nothing that sets the album apart as an SEL album. Pritam or Vishal-Shekhar would have delivered an equally spunky album. There are no new sounds here, no innovations and no surprises.
