Bangladeshi minor rescued from Shiv Sena leader's chawl

No political party can match the Shiv Sena in the shrillness of its harangues against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

However, Anil Tingre-Patil, the deputy chief of the saffron party from the Vadgaon Sheri Assembly constituency in Dhanori Gaon, is probably wise enough to know that speeches are speeches, and business is business.



All Bangladeshis

Police yesterday rescued a minor Bangladeshi girl held in illegal custody by Rita Biswas, a Bangladeshi citizen, from a chawl owned by Patil in Dhanori which is widely known to offer rooms on rent to illegal Bangladeshis.

Farida Sheikh, a trafficker who was arrested on Wednesday, allegedly brought the rescued minor illegally into India.

It was Farida who told the police that the minor was being held in Dhanori. The rescued minor was terrified and in tears.

Senior Police Inspector Bharatbhushan Sharma's team comprising Sub Inspector Rohini Bothe, Sub Inspector Umesh Dhumal and Constable Rajaram Ghogre from the Faraskhana police station conducted the rescue operations.

Biswas, according to the police, had a visa, but it expired eight months ago. Locals told this reporter that many Bangladeshis rentedu00a0 Tingre-Patil's chawl.

Tingre-Patil confirmed over phone that the girl was indeed rescued from his chawl. "Faraskhana police also called me to the chowky on Friday after the raid.

I had allowed Biswas to stay in my chawl because she told me she was from Calcutta. I had no clue about her antecedents,"he said.

Caught unawares

Shiv Sena state spokesperson Neelam Gorhe told MiD DAY "He might have rented them rooms without knowing that they were Bangladeshis.

While it is necessary to inform the police about the tenants, no one takes it seriously in Pune. The police should undertake a drive to evict illegal Bangladeshis."

Nana Wadekar, Shiv Sena city chief, told this reporter that he would take up the matter with the party leadership.

"Shiv Sena is against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. If what you say is true, I will take up the matter with Uddhav Thackeray saheb and request him to take action against Tingre-Patil," said Wadekar.u00a0
