Pretending to be deaf and dumb, these men stole goods worth Rs 20 lakh from techies on night-shift
For two Tamil youths, Anil (19) and Madan (22), stealing laptops without raising suspicion seemed to be a cakewalk.
Pretending to be deaf and dumb, they managed to make away with expensive goods including several laptops worth Rs 20 lakh, before being caught by the Mico Layout police.
The duo failed their Class X, so their parents had stopped them from attending school.

After a brief stint as daily wage workers, they moved to Bangalore for a better life. Both of them had decided to pose as deaf and dumb before they came to Bangalore.
Once in the city, they ganged up with two other people who are now absconding.
The four got a room in Hosur, which borders Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. They initially acted as beggars, in order to earmark the houses they were going to rob.
Modus operandi
Their targets were single software engineers working night shifts. After they had completed their observations,
they would make their move.
To make their 'disability' look authentic, the group carried papers that had fake autographs of film stars and ministers. These papers also had a write-up about their so-called disabilities.
They would visit the house early in the morning posing as beggars, ring the doorbell, and ask for alms, if the door was answered.
If no one answered the door, they would break in and make away with valuable goods, which included laptops and gold ornaments.
Within five months, they stole 22 laptops and 150 gm gold, using the same modus operandi. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't find customers to sell these stolen goods.
Disappointed, they turned to stealing two-wheelers. Yet again they targeted only techies' bikes, in a similar fashion.
They stole eight two-wheelers and sold them from prices ranging from Rs 6,000 to 10,000 in Tamil Nadu. But their luck ran out when the police caught Madan while he was trying to steal a bike at Mico Layout limits.
CS Janardhan, PI, Mico Layout police station said, "We have been looking for these two, as both are notorious thieves. We are still trying to locate the other two, and will catch them soon."
