Kolkata's Tajdar Junaid's easy, instantly appealing vocals bring on the mushIT must be terribly easy for a vocalist to get carried away with pop and fall prey to a fake accent that he can never rid himself of, destroying any hope he has of a faithful audience. There are many of these around. Tajdar Junaid isn't one of those, thankfully. His track Though I Know I Will Never Forget You is a lazy singalong. The Beatles seem to be a big reference point on this track but Junaid isn't just another plagiarist. The clap beats, the jangly strings, the warm back-up vocals and Junaid's woozy lead make for a great pop hit.
It's a pity then that Junaid sings only on one of the songs. What Colour is your Raindrop is an artfully composed instrumental with dreamy guitar parts and shivering beats that make you want to write its lyrics. Summer rain picks up speed and is coloured like a classical (yes, Indian classical) number except when the flutes come in sounding like a chorus of exotic birds. We definitely want more of Junaid.
