Probe into Jama Masjid case has Special Cell solving a number of petty crimes
They are the Delhi Police's crack anti-terror force. They are called the 'Special wale' and petty criminals just don't cross their path.
However, inadvertently probably for the first time, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police did a great service to their lesser-privileged colleagues who are busy chasing small-time criminals, thieves, pick-pockets, robbers etc.
During their investigations into the Jama Masjid shootout case, in which two foreign tourists were shot at and injured during indiscriminate firing by two bike-borne assailants in September, the Special Cell had picked up a number of bad characters from the area. It was suspected that some local elements were involved in the attack and the cops had detained a number of people with shady past for questioning.
Though nothing concrete came out of the interrogation for the Special Cell, the drill came as a boon for several police stations on the lookout of these people who were wanted in several non-heinous crimes. The Special Cell sleuths after completing their questioning are handing them over to the police stations where cases are registered against them.
"We have arrested three proclaimed offenders on the specific tip off from the different areas. All of the accused were declared proclaimed offenders. Imran, 25 and Rizwan, 22 were arrested from the MCD park of Chandani Chowk and Mohd. Shahzad, 26, was arrested from Shastri Park area," said a police officer.

According to the police, accused Imran and Rizwan are wanted in different cases in Tmarpur, Burari and New Usmanpur area of Delhi. Both of them were absconding in cases of attempt to murder and robbery. While Mohd. Shahzad is a gang member of notorious Shahnawaz gang, which is notorious for highway robberies.
Mohd Shahzad is also a proclaimed offender and he fled to Mumbai after committing the crimes. He recently came back and started working in a private factory in Shastri Park area from where he was arrested.
The Special cell has handed over the accused to the concerned police stations in Section 41.1 of CRPC.
