Two constables from Khadki police station had to guard a dead body fished out of Mula river near Mahadev Ghat for almost three hours on Monday night.


Two constables from Khadki police station had to guard a dead body fished out of Mula river near Mahadev Ghat for almost three hours on Monday night.

The reason: they were unable to get an ambulance to carry the body to Sassoon Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

u00a0Police constable Shrikant Shirole and G K Kulkarni had to face many difficulties, as the private and the ambulance from the police department refused to carry the dead body to Sassoon Hospital.

Moreover citizens and auto rickshaw drivers also watched the two cops helplessly.u00a0

u00a0Constable Kulkarni said, "Alert citizens called the fire brigade jawans at 7.30 pm after they saw a dead body floating in the river near the Mahadev Ghat at Bopodi. The jawans managed to get the completely swollen body out of the water and then left the spot after the police did the panchnama."

u00a0"However the body was required to be taken to Sassoon Hospital for the post-mortem but we could not get any ambulance ufffd neither from the police department division nor from any private operator. Finally we managed to get a PMC dead body van after almost three hours of waiting to carry the body," said Kulkarni.

u00a0"The unidentified body was of a 40-year-old man. The only identification mark on it was that a name Vandana was tattooed on the hand," Shirole said.
